Calcareous nannoplankton

We are a group of young researchers who are part of the Instituto de Investigaciones en Estratigrafía (IIES) at University of Caldas. Mentored by Felipe Vallejo, the group is looking for tiny biological forms called calcareous nanoplankton. These nano-structures that are unique to marine environments lack studies in Colombia. Nanoplankton can be found as fossils in rocks or as floating organisms in ocean waters. Once the nanoplankton is identified, the group proceeds to study the age indicated by its forms and the characteristics of the seawater indicated by its associations and abundances. The calcareous nanoplankton group will always welcome those who wish to join us.

I am a Geologist graduated from the Universidad de Caldas (Colombia) and a PhD geology student at the Universidad de Salamanca (Spain). My main interest is to understand the age and the paleoceanographic setting of marine deposits sedimented in the Caribbean Plate. My research project is dedicated to create a biochronologic framework for marine rocks from the Late Cretaceous to the Pliocene in Pacific and Caribbean basins of Colombia in order to understand the relationship between tectonics and the stratigraphic record. I am the leader of the calcareous nanoplankton group at the Instituto de Investigaciones en Estratigrafía (IIES) of the Universidad de Caldas and I belong to the research group of Investigación en Estratigrafía y Vulcanología (GIEV) Cumanday. Currently, I am a visiting student at Rutgers University and the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI).

I am Geologist from the Universidad de Caldas (Colombia), MSc in Earth Sciences from the Universidad de Caldas (Colombia) and PhD in Geological Sciences from the Universidad de Buenos Aires (Argentina). My main interests are biostratigraphy, paleoecology and paleoceanography, although I work on several other topics that concern my colleagues, such as stratigraphy, sedimentology and other micropaleontological tools.
Currently, I am professor in the Instituto de Ciencias Polares y Antárticas (ICPA) of the Universidad Nacional de Tierra del Fuego (Argentina), I have a postdoctoral position in the Centro Austral de Investigaciones Científicas (CADIC-CONICET, Argentina) and belong to calcareous nannoplankton group of the Instituto de Investigaciones en Estratigrafía (IIES). I am a member of the Research Group on Stratigraphy and Volcanology (GIEV) Cumanday.

I am Geologist from the Universidad de Caldas (Colombia), MSc in Earth Sciences: Applied and Environmental Geology from the Universidad de Salamanca (España). My main interests are sedimentology, stratigraphy, marine micropaleontology and biostratigraphy using calcareous nanofossils. I belong to the group of calcareous nanofossils of the Instituto de Investigaciones en Estratigrafía (IIES) of the Universidad de Caldas.

I am a Geologist from the Universidad de Caldas (Colombia), candidate for an MSc in Earth Sciences from the Universidad de Caldas. My main interests are micropaleontology and biostratigraphy in Cretaceous marine sediments based on calcareous nanofossils, however, I also work on the analysis of Cenozoic calcareous nanofossils for biostratigraphic and paleoecological purposes and together with the collaboration of my expert colleagues in other areas I participate in solving some geological problems. My research project involves the late Campanian – early Maastrichtian and late Maastrichtian nanofossil calcareous assamblage in Colombia and their paleogeographic implications. Currently, I belong to the group of calcareous nanoplankton of this institute, and I am a member of the Research Group on Stratigraphy and Volcanology (GIEV) Cumanday.

I am Geologist from the University de Caldas (Colombia), a master’s degree student in Earth Sciences at the University de Caldas (Colombia). My main interests are sedimentology, biostratigraphy and micropaleontology. My research project involves bioestratigraphic analysis using calcareous nannofossils. Currently, I belong to the group of calcareous nanoplankton of this institute, and I am a member of the Research Group on Stratigraphy and Volcanology (GIEV) Cumanday.

I am Geologist from the Universidad de Caldas (Colombia), specialist in environmental management and disaster prevention from the Sergio Arboleda University (Colombia), and currently MSc student in Earth Sciences from the Universidad de Caldas (Colombia). My main interests are micropaleontologist and climate change, perhaps I also dedicate efforts in development sciences divulgation projects. Presently I’m active researcher from Instituto de Investigaciones en Estratigrafia (IIES) and belong to calcareous nannoplankton group.

I am a Geologist from the Universidad de Caldas (Colombia), a student of Master in Earth Sciences from the Universidad de Caldas. My main interests are micropaleontology and biostratigraphy. My research project is based on the analysis of calcareous nannofossils and benthic foraminifera in the Caribbean and Colombian Pacific basins, with a focus un understanding paleoenvironmental conditions during the period of maximum flooding in the early Miocene. Currently, I belong to the group of Calcareous Nanoplankton of this institute, and I am a member of the Research Group on Stratigraphy and Volcanology (GIEV) Cumanday.

I am Geologist from the Universidad de Caldas (Colombia), and currently student of the Master in Earth Sciences right there. My main interests are Micropaleontology and Biostratigraphy. My research project basically consists of studying coccolithophores/calcareous nanofossils in recent sediments of the Caribbean Sea, and, through them, knowing which at the oceanographic configuration was like, and identifying the orbital climatic changes in that zone. Currently, I am part of the group of calcareous nanofossils, and I am also an associate researcher in the Grupo de Investigación en Estratigrafía y Vulcanología (GIEV) Cumanday (A1) adscrito a Colciencias/Minciencia.
