Foraminifera

The Foraminifera research group of the Instituto de Investigaciones en Estratigrafía (IIES) is made up of a young and enthusiastic group of researchers who have had the opportunity to study the biostratigraphy and paleoecology of the Cenozoic basins of Colombia. As a group, led by the MSC Raúl Trejos-Tamayo, we are very interested in understanding the biostratigraphic distribution of foraminifera, their implications for paleoceanographic evolution, and paleoclimatic variability in northern South America. This is how we train students at the undergraduate and graduate levels, we offer stays for national and foreign students, and we are constantly linked to different research projects.

I am Geologist from the Universidad de Caldas (Colombia), MSc in Earth Sciences from the Universidad de Salamanca (Spain) and PhD student in Geology from the Universidad de Salamanca. My main interests are the biostratigraphy and paleoceanography with foraminifera and stratigraphy from the Cenozoic basins of northern South America.

I am currently a researcher at the IIES, I belong to the foraminifera group, to the Scientific Committee of this institute, and I am a member of the Research Group on Stratigraphy and Volcanology (GIEV) Cumanday.

I am a Geologist and a student of MSc in Earth Sciences at the University of Caldas (Manizales-Colombia). My field of research is related to the study of benthic foraminifera and their integration in the analysis of deep paleoceanographic conditions, in order to reconstruct the paleoecological, paleoenvironmental and paleobathymetric conditions in ancient deposits of the NW margin of South America (Colombian Caribbean and Pacific Basin).

My research project involves the sedimentological, micropaleontological and geochemical analysis of benthic foraminifera during the Eocene-Oligocene and Oligocene-Miocene boundaries in the ANH-Costa Azul-1 and ANH-San Jacinto-1 wells (Colombian Caribbean): Reconstruction of deep paleoceanographic conditions.

I am Geologist from the Universidad de Caldas (Colombia), MSc in Physical, Chemical and Geological Oceanography, from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande (Brazil). My main interests are biostratigraphy and paleoclimatology, using Cenozoic planktonic foraminifera. My current research project involves the micropaleontological and isotopic analysis of wells drilled in the Caribbean basin, to understand the paleoclimatic changes and variations in sea level during the Late Quaternary. I currently belong to the foraminifera group of this institute, and I am a member of the Research Group on Stratigraphy and Volcanology (GIEV) Cumanday.

I am Geologist from the Universidad de Caldas (Colombia) and part of the foraminifera research area of this Institute. My main interests are biostratigraphy and paleoecology through planktonic foraminifera. Currently, I am a master student in Earth Science from the Universidad de Caldas and also part of the Stratigraphy and Volcanology Research Group (GIEV) Cumanday. My research project involves planktonic foraminifera analysis to determine paleoecological conditions in the Caribbean of Colombia in the Eocene/Oligocene and Oligocene/Miocene limits.

I am Geologist from the Universidad de Caldas (Colombia). My main interests are Biostratigraphy and Sedimentology. I belong to the group of foraminifers, applied in biostratigraphy and paleoceanographic reconstructions. Currently, I am researcher in the micropaleontology group, at the Instituto de Investigaciones en Estratigrafía (IIES)-Universidad de Caldas.
