My name is Sergio A. Celis, a geologist from the University of Caldas (Colombia). My research focuses on the evolution of sedimentary systems, ranging from fluvial and deltaic environments to deep-marine basins. I integrate sedimentology, ichnology, sedimentary geochemistry, and both outcrop and subsurface datasets to investigate depositional processes, basin evolution, and reservoir heterogeneity.
I earned my Ph.D. in Earth Sciences from the University of Granada (Spain) in 2025, following two master’s degrees in Earth Sciences and Applied Geology to Mineral and Energy Resources (GEOREC).
Currently, I am a postdoctoral researcher in the Applied Research in Ichnology and Sedimentology (ARISE) Group at Simon Fraser University (Canada), where I develop regional 3D geological models to evaluate subsurface reservoir architecture and their potential for long-term geological CO₂ storage. I am also a member of the Stratigraphy and Volcanology Research Group (GIEV) Cumanday.
