I am a geologist graduated from the Department of Geological Sciences of the University of Caldas (Manizales, 1998), I did my M.Sc. in Plant Micropaleontology (1997) and the Ph.D. in Sciences at the University of Liège (Belgium, 2004). Since 1989 I have been a professor at the Department of Geological Sciences of the University of Caldas in different subjects, such as Sedimentology, Regional Geology, Palynology, Stratigraphy, Field Geology, Paleopalynology and Palynofacies.
During 2006-2009 I worked as a consultant for the National Hydrocarbon Agency, where I participated in the geological study of the sedimentary basins of the country. In addition, I was the manager and researcher responsible for the project that created the Instituto de Investigaciones en Estratigrafía-IIES (U. de Caldas), sponsored by the ANH and Colciencias. I am director of the Research Group in Stratigraphy and Volcanology-GIEV Cumanday of the University of Caldas. My research is mainly focused on the study of stratigraphy, regional geology, and geological evolution of the NW margin of South America between the Cretaceous-Recent. For this, together with our research group I use different types of tools, especially micropaleontology (palynology, foraminifera, calcareous nannofossils, ostracods and diatoms), petrography, geochronology and thermochronology. I have directed some projects carried out with the ANH, related to the multidisciplinary study of wells and outcrops in different basins of the country.
